FRONT & BACK GALLERIES

ROOM WITH A VIEW by JASON PARKER

I close the door behind me, lock it, then deadlock it. I’ve already put out the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign. The room is large, empty, save for a small desk that sits in the center. I make my way to the window to take in the view, I am greeted by a familiar sight, the scene below born 27 years ago, changing daily. Untarnished views that stretch to a horizon that is ever growing, structures fall, new ones erected, I take it all in. On top of the desk sits a small stack of paper, a pencil and a modest lamp. I flick the switch on the lamp basking the desk in a warm yellow glow, the walls catch a small amount of light, walls not built with steel and concrete but with experiences, emotions, and insight. I take one last look at the view, take a seat and draw.

UPSTAIRS GALLERY

DARK CORNER by JACOB COPPEDGE

"Are my memories just a manifestation of my pain?? Cording bodies timelessly bury, aid into my subconscious, finding home in a dark corner. Were the experiences ever real? I smoke my last cigarette, whilst lighting another. My tobacco is inflamed, as well as my mind. My childhood is just as alive as I currently be, as my future torments me, tediously stringing me along. But love... but love... I ponder in my dark corner."
Jacob Coppedge is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice primarily revolves around illustrative drawing techniques. The work he produces is in relation to his views on humankind and how we interact. Themes of spirituality, sexuality, identity, space and time are prominent in many of his drawings. He references past events and experiences in context with these themes and he conveys his ideas through contemporary and traditional drawing techniques, working with ink as well as other mediums; his work features bold lines and strong, organic forms, arousing complex ideas concerning the human mind and challenging these issues as a consist theme in his work.
