INTERPRETING THE FLINDERS RANGES
by Robert Stemp

CATALOGUE

Certain landscapes hold a special place for me. They all generate a momentary feeling akin to ecstasy. Driving through Brachina Gorge in the Flinders Ranges for the first time was just such an experience.

To be able to generate enough intensity in my work, sufficient to evoke the place I am painting, I have referred to artists such as Henri Matisse, Paul Gaugin and Fred Williams. Strong colourists, they have the ability to reduce a subject to simpler patterns and stronger colours that highlight the points of interest for them. Studying Paul Cezanne helped me create a clearer structure in my compositions.

IN SILHOUETTE
by Miranda Smith

CATALOGUE

Hong Kong and Melbourne based artist Miranda Smith, presents, In Silhouette - a dynamic light installation formed by its viewer’s colourful shadows. Vibrant compositions of shadows ebb and flow, ‘painting’ the installation space; while intersecting, blending and contrasting with the shadows of other bodies within the gallery. Exploring concepts of perception, affect, and temporal encounters; this installation utilises shadow as a physical representation of affect. Each viewer will experience an exclusive choreography of light and shadow that will be their own unique encounter.

BUBBLE POP ELECTRIC
by Alison Willoughby

CATALOGUE

‘Bubble Pop Electric’ is a kaleidoscope of lively colour and form.
Akin to upbeat melodies of early 2000’s pop, this series is an exploration
of vibrancy and playful saturation.
Inspiration is taken from both the natural environment through flowers and plant life,
and the artificial world of pop music and sugary sweets. The contrast and harmony
between the two worlds is juxtaposed and celebrated with abstract compositions
drenched in electric, bubblegum hues.
