FRONT GALLERY

ORNITHOLOGICAL ABSTRACTION
by Sam Marshall

CATALOGUE

Ornithological Abstraction, is a series of hand pulled monotype relief prints and spray painted art boards of native birds defined by the simplicity of both shape and colour in unicent. Stemming from my love of ornithology, graffiti, and also abstract art itself I will be creating these works to not only show close representations of native birds, but also explore strong lines and shapes associated with graffiti art creating an abstract abbreviation of the subject matter.

THE GHOST WHO WALKS
by Lucy Ray

CATALOGUE

The artworks in The Ghost Who Walks tell a story without a source and no natural narrative.
Quiet and serene, the works are not concerned with what might happen but rather the events that may have occurred.
Composed over fourteen drawings, the series explores themes of loneliness, storytelling and liminality.
The remnants of figures drift through a seemingly abandoned world, through familiar locations, highways, behind empty stores, and out in fields.
Without an existing pretext, the experience is one of chancing upon a scene that’s played out.
Leaving a trace of something for those who came in late.

SIDE GALLERY

LA FEMME EN NOIR
by Mitchell Hendley

CATALOGUE

Comprised of a series of black ink stipple illustrations, the delicate artworks of la femme en noir embody themes of mortality and innocence, taking a romantic lens to the danse macabre. Rich in depth and intricacy, the images delve into the relationship between virtue and vice in the miasma of the modern world. Elaborate florals and gilded lunar symbols create an impressive backdrop into the artistic exploration of the marriage between seduction and mortality.

TAKE THE LEAD
by Sophie Calalesina, Brooke Murray, Diva Scum
& Natasha Brooks

CATALOGUE

Take the Lead is a collective and group show consisting of women artists exploring gender, identity and sexuality. While these works are joined through exploring these themes and their relationship to feminism, each individual artist presents their own unique life experiences and approaches to feminist thought through various mediums. Our first iteration, our aim is for our collective to provide opportunities for women, trans and non-binary creatives.

This show has been supported by Yarra City Council.
