BACK GALLERY BODY OF WORK We often believe we have authority over our minds and a fundamental understanding of ourselves, yet we have consistently been shaped by a different narrative or an external authority. Now, more than ever, is the opportune moment to challenge and reshape this narrative. Body of Work was completed with the assistance of audience participation, inviting the public to share images of their vulnerabilities in confidence. Society talks about the importance of sharing vulnerabilities, to form connections and intrinsic understanding, yet it is rarely done. The charcoal illustrations are an attempt to create an intimate self-reflective space where you as the viewer can hopefully resonate with and accept compassionately the vulnerabilities depicted and ultimately one’s own.

SIDE GALLERY RHYTHM In psychology, repetition involves the recurrence of a particular behavior, thought, or action. Within mindfulness exercises, repetition serves to disrupt negative patterns, soothe the amygdala, and calm the restless mind. "Rhythm" explores the mindfulness of repetition in adult life. Through recurring strokes, gestures, and patterns, the artwork mirrors the repetitions observed in nature. The creation process allowed the artist to pause, reflect and find solace in the act of repetition. The methodical progression of repeated actions serves as a pathway to inner peace—a gentle reminder of our capacity to cultivate order amidst the chaos of the world.

UPSTAIRS GALLERY NO PLACE LIKE ’No Place Like’ interprets the effects of renewal projects abandoning and demolishing existing public housing and pays homage to the displacement of public housing residents. The loss of public housing is fragmenting our community. This exhibition amplifies the voices of those navigating displacement, fostering dialogue on housing insecurity and advocating for public housing's necessary survival. Abbey Murdoch, who currently resides within, and advocates for Public Housing, completed a BVA with first class Honours from Adelaide Central School of Art in 2023, and is now an ACE 2024 studio resident based on Karuna Land (Adelaide).
